New Nobori are Here!

If you didn’t know, I have a small web-shop (see link above) where I sell Nobori (flags), Drift Tengoku magazines, Option DVDs, and the like. Trying to recreate old shop and drift team logos from back in the day has become a fun hobby, and I’ve been turning them into nobori and throwing them up in my shop. I just recently added a couple of new ones to the mix.

I’ve had this Uras sticker sitting in a zip lock bag with a bunch of others I’ve collected over the years and thought it would make a cool nobori. So, I scanned it, imported it into Illustrator, vectorized it and then spent hours adjusting curves and adding/deleting vertices. In the end I ended up with a pretty accurate reproduction. The funny part of this particular design is the phrase “Osaru no Kagoya”, which means Monkey’s Basket and is an old Japanese children’s song. You can count on Nomura to include some goofy monkey reference in everything.

So I have a pair of old Kei Office gloves that I bought in the late 90s. They’ve deteriorated over the years so I stopped using them and now they’re just sitting in a small display case in my garage. Yeah, I’m a dork. I know. Anywho, I was looking at the little logo that is stitched on them and thought that would be fun to recreate. So I ended up doing some Googling and came across pictures of the old Kei Office shop sign and thought that would make a cool nobori. I started with an exact reproduction, but thought it was a bit too plain, so I ended up adding an offset outline in red to give it a “sketchy” look. Also, instead of a white background like the label or the shop sign had, I decided to use Tsuchiya’s signature green.

These nobori and plenty of others are available in the web-shop. The link is at the top of the page. I don’t keep a big inventory so most of the sell out pretty quickly, and I’m not on the ball when it comes to keeping them in stock. If you’ve ordered or are planning on it keeps the bills paid for this blog and it’s greatly appreciated.
